Dutch Secretary of State Frans Heemskerk of Economic Affairs has postponed the setting-up of a legal “do-not-call” list with three months. People who have already submitted an application at infofilter.nl, do not have to register again. The setting-up of the register, for which people can register if they do not want be called by telemarketeers, was planned for July 1st., but has been postponed until 1 October next. The reason for the delay is unclear. Infofilter has been designated to manage the new database (http://www.infofilter.nl). According to Heemskerk that makes perfect senss, because those who have already registered in the database of Infofilter, do not have to register again. Infofilter is a joint initiative of companies in the telecombranche. Up until 1 October next there will be no consequences for companies to ignore registration on the infofilter list, so that people on that list could sofar still be called. However, after 1 October, consumers can lodge a complaint with the Consumer Authority, which can impose a fine of up to 450.000 euro to the offending company. Infofilter also manages the “do-not-mail” and the deceased lists, as well as the market research by telephone list.
